Associated Men Students Prepare to Meet the Axis Powers
The student organization shows how ready men at San Diego State University are to fight. This video dates from 1942-1943, and has no sound. In the first part, men pour, running, out of the Main Quad through the arch between the portales of Hepner Hall. In the second part, "Arms and Legs for Offense," men are shown doing exercises in place. In "Preparing for Greater Obstacles, men run an obstacle course. "Weaponless Maneuvers" show men in a field from which Hepner Hall is visible, practicing unarmed combat demonstrated by an instructor on a platform. "While on Another Field, Precision Prevails" shows instructors guiding exercises with men in rows. "For touch now, for keeps later" shows scrimmaging. "Running toward victory" shows men running on a dirt road" into a canyon. A little pigskin fun before the big pigskinning" is a color section of football teams at play, including some in slow motion. In "Relay Means Teamwork; Teamwork Means Victory," a short relay is set up across the width of the football field, after which small groups pass a man around. "The General Staff" introduces coaches and other involved with physical training, but no names are shown. "Where Do They Come From, the Axis May Ask" shows men running in formation in the bleachers of Aztec Bowl. Names finally appear in the next segment, "Lt. [lieutenant] Comdr. [Commander Leo] Calland details Lt. Craney to assist with "Physical Fitness P.E. [Physical Education] Program, in which a uniformed officer shakes hands with a university official and then shakes hands with a lineup of men in white singlets and pants. In "Tony Ghio and Bob Menke win the Drill Contest," two men stand in front of the lineup in the last segment, and uniformed officers shake hands with them. In the last intertitle, "A.M.S. [Associated Men Students] Officers 1942-1943" are named: "President: Jim Adler, Vice President: Jim Dall; Secretary: Hud East; Treasurer: Herb Blossom." After that, five men are shown standing with "The Aztec" sculpture in the Main Quad, followed by a United States flag flying by itself (the 48-star flag). Associated Students Customer Service Training Rough Cut, 1992
This video from 1992 is a customer service training video for individuals working for Associated Students at San Diego State University. It presents a number of scenarios in which customers are provided poor service from campus employees, and then goes on to give tips for providing good customer service. This short clip, comprised mainly of still color photographs and narration, with music in the background, gives an introduction to San Diego State University. (There is about a minute of video at the end.) It also gives an overview of the old Aztec Center Student Union (later replaced by Conrad Prebys' Aztec Student Union), Open Air Theatre, Children's Center, Scripp's Cottage, Mission Bay Aquatic Center that were all run by the Associated Students. Interview with Dan Cornthwaite
This short clip includes a brief interview with Dan Cornthwaite, at the time executive director of Associated Students at San Diego State University (SDSU). (He retired in 2013.) Cornthwaite answers questions regarding his opinions on how SDSU President Stephen Weber (1996-2011) and former president Thomas Day handled what was at the time known as Cox Arena (later Viejas Arena). In it Cornthwaite is asked about then President Weber's feelings regarding the "gravity" of an operations issue; the unnamed interviewer also states many believe he is "trying to mollify a community pest," referring to an unsatisfied citizenry. This short video for the school year 1990-1991 begins with shots of a variety of activities and services provided by the Associated Students organization at San Diego State University. It then provides an overview of the facilities found at the old Aztec Student Union (replaced by the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union), introduced by then Associated Students President Joseph M. Horiye. It also includes a brief description of the make up of the Associated Students group, the Open Air Theatre, the Campus Children's Center, Scripps Cottage, the Leisure Connection, and the Mission Bay Aquatic Center, Home Federal Bank, Monty's Den, Paper Chase, Piccolo's Coffee, etc. Toward the end two other current Associated Students officers are introduced: Brian P.
