The purpose of this qualitative case study is to determine the effectiveness and necessity for the dual language program at Southwest High School. The research is trying to determine if the program, which is growing each year, is a valuable resource for a school that is underperforming and consistently falling behind in state testing. The instruments that are utilized for this case study are interviews of administration, program facilitators, students and parents. It is when there is an educational research based program model that emphasizes the importance of balanced bilingualism that there is educational success and achievement amongst students and their ability to transfer information. The extent to which the findings reflect this previous research will be discussed and recommendations will be made for the purpose of informing the effectiveness of the dual language program at Southwest High School.
