This side of the postcard shows a postage stamp and postmark, address and message (see "Transcription"). Van Deerlin was a member of the House of Representatives from San Diego (1963-1981). Later he taught at San Diego State University (1984-1987), with the Lionel Van Deerlin Chair in Communications endowed in his honor (1985).
