In this thesis project I have developed a film program to be implemented at San Diego State University by the administration and faculty for both the benefit of the university and the San Diego Unified School District servicing K-12 students in the greater San Diego, California area. Whether participants in Reel Film Force are film majors or not, the aim of this program is to provide students with a broad range of film experiences. Significant attention is paid to the program's events and structure as well as the service learning opportunities for students. Included herein are (1) an explanation of the reasoning behind creating such a program, (2) a description of the project and the program Reel Film Force, (3) suggestions and guidelines for workshops, the global cinema and student film festival, (4) a syllabus created specifically for a service learning course based on film and media arts, and (5) a sample two-week lesson plan/model for students to use during their service learning course.
