Description
Developing a policy and procedure manual is important for any organization. Manuals provide consistency in protocol, can streamline staff training, and can serve as a quick reference guide for employees. Recognizing the lack of a policy and procedure manual for intramural sports supervisors at San Diego State University (SDSU), it was imperative that one be created. Intramural sports supervisors play a key role in facilitating safe recreational sports programming by managing game sites, enforcing policies, and responding to emergencies. Previously, intramural policies were presented in a variety of mediums during training by newly promoted intramural sports supervisors at SDSU. These mediums included lectures, handouts, and shadowing of experienced supervisors. The purpose of this project was to synthesize all of these materials into a single resource. The Intramural Sports Supervisor Manual is a resource that is intended to create consistency in how intramural sports supervisors at SDSU perform their job duties. In developing the manual, it was important to organize the manual so that the reader would have the ability to easily retrieve the information necessary to properly fulfill their job requirements. Using a table of contents and headings to categorize the information improved the overall organization and practicality of the manual. Several subjects incorporated into this manual include job expectations, technical procedures, facility use, emergency action plans, illustrated maps, and program policies. A section related to filling out intramural forms and what information is necessary to complete them properly is included, as well as the participant handbook that contains the rules and policies that participants are held accountable for knowing. This manual is intended to function as a reference guide to allow intramural supervisors to be more effective at their job.
