Description
The thesis proposal outlines the problems and solutions to planning and producing the short film project called Space Garden. The film follows one young man's discovery of the truth of why he and two thousand kids are being sent to a new planet and the secrets contained in their memories. The proposal outlines many of the science fiction genre influences; including the works of Stanley Kubrick and many of the gritty genre films of the 1970s, for example Soylent Green, Mad Max, and Logan's Run, as well as many of the newer films of the genre: Children of Men, Moon, and The Matrix. This film attempts to match that social concern for the future and provide a thrilling allegory about this generation and our place in the future. The proposal outlines many of the problems faced with bringing these themes, inside a complex genre, to the screen. In particular, production design and special effects are of specific concern to the production to maintain an authentic reality to the audience. Another challenge is providing the most thrilling story possible that remains true to the intended vision, accomplished through mastering story elements from the use of dialogue to pacing and editing
