One particular part that is a focus of this work is the evolution of "E learning" also commonly known as web learning, online education and the like. This mode of knowledge acquisition is a shift from traditional paper books to computer-based systems including the web. This form of learning has seen a tremendous popularity in the past few decades and the reasons could be many. The idea behind the development of this thesis project is to develop a GIS tool for the Department of History presenting the life history of America's 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt. The tool represents the events of Theodore Roosevelt's life on a world map; this should help students to learn more about him and his eventful life. The tool is made interactive so that it attracts the interest of students towards learning history. The tool is developed in JAVA and utilizes MOJO (MapObjects JAVA Objects), which is provided by ESRI. Using MOJO, we can incorporate GIS related features into the application by linking data to various geographical features on the map. The tool has simple user interface so that students can use it without any difficulty. The information is divided into different layers of the map based on the time period, so that students can look for specific information of their interest. Videos, audios and pictures are included; it also has WebPages that give information about certain life events of Theodore Roosevelt. For the assessment of the knowledge there is a Quiz, where there are questions related to the topics covered in the tool. The tool is easy to deploy and can be configured manually by making changes to a configuration file.
