Description
The International Student Center (ISC) offers a full range of programs and services to foster student success, global perspectives, intercultural awareness and international good will. The International Student Tutor-Mentor program (ISTMP) is one such program which helps students to gain greater competence in the English language and to promote better understanding of American culture and cross-cultural differences. Their ultimate goal is the cultivation of long lasting friendship, between people from all over the globe. Right now the program is managed with the help of a web-based application. My project deals with enhancement of this application and introducing mapping concepts to it. One important feature is development of a location based mapping application to understand the diversity of students' home countries. It helps directors to know the origin of a student who participates in their program, which would in turn help them in assigning a tutor/mentor to that student. Additionally, candidates willing to join the university will be able to get details of the enrolled students in the university, from the same home country. They can contact these students to get a better idea about the courses, the university environment and any other details they need to know before joining the university, thus helping the university in getting more students enrolled. Another key feature is to track the status of any student, tutor or mentor in the program at any given time and come up with a GUI that would generate statistical information based on major, location of students' origin, which can be printed for records.
