Design and implementation of workflow for content management system

A Content Management System (CMS) is a software application that allows users to create dynamic web pages for easy viewing, editing and publishing information such as documents and other digital assets in a transparent way. The author is responsible for creating the content, having it reviewed by the editor for content tuning and adjustment, and finally the publisher or administrator publishes the content or rejects the content. The workflow aims to establish the process and the roles within different departments. The critical aspect of CMS is to maintain and manage version history for the contents, providing the user of CMS the ability to revert back to an earlier version. In 2008, a custom content management system was deployed called Toolbox, which can be accessed via https://newscenter.sdsu.edu/toolbox/. The toolbox provides an interface to help departments develop websites. The objective of the thesis project is to modify and improve this CMS, particularly with regard to the version history and other aspects of workflow. In addition to the critical version history feature, email notification, easy management for updating user details, and department user roles will be discussed.
