Lewis was a member of the Solana Beach School Board, making her a fit subject for the "Women in Politics" series. The interview was conducted in her home. She discovered she had Hodgkin's disease when she was training as a nurse in New Jersey, but still got married and had children, even though she found that people "were reluctant to hire" her.
