In this report are the procedures to cultivate anaerobic ammonium oxidizing (anammox) bacteria from wastewater sludge. This covers the setup and operating of the reactors as well as a review of the scientific discoveries encompassing anammox bacteria. An experiment that ran for three months did not show successful cultivation of anammox bacteria. This was due to the poor reactor setup that did not create an anaerobic environment in the reactors. A discussion of the lessons learned throughout the experiment was covered to show the reasons why there was no cultivation of anammox bacteria and how to improve on those failures
