Description
The thesis analyzes the various cultural factors that affect the mental health of musicians. The use of historical and theoretical analyses provides a background to mental health, while also providing a new view on mental health in the music industry. The ontological approach to mental health is meant to bring awareness to the social stigma of mental health and inspire change. Understanding the historical and theoretical framework of mental health and music shifts the attention to the social essence of being human. By studying different cultural factors, such as the culture industry and panopticism, we can understand the impact that these cultural factors have on a multitude of individuals and begin to reframe the way we think about mental health. Raising awareness creates room for understanding, which allows for the reevaluation of the societal stigma of mental illness.
