The 3GPP Release 10 communication standard is named Lte Advanced. It is an update to the Release 8/9 standard which is called Lte. The main goal of Lte Advanced is to increase the peak data rates to 1Gbps in downlink and 500Mbps in uplink to be called a true 4G standard, exceeding the requirements of IMT Advanced. To achieve that, 3GPP has introduced several improvements to Release 8, Carrier Aggregation and higher order MIMO being most important of them. This research studies the carrier aggregation technology at the physical layer and its impact on the design of a transmitter by examining the distortion introduced by the use of nonlinear components in the device architecture, and demonstrates through Tone Reservation Algorithm, how to avoid such a distortion.
