This research project investigated the experiences of adult student veterans who have completed postsecondary education degrees utilizing veteran education benefits. The purpose of this grounded theory research was to discover how veterans are able to complete baccalaureate degrees within the 36 months allowed under the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill education benefits. The participants for the study included 15 adults who are current or former military servicemembers of 18 years of age or older and have earned a bachelor’s degree from a not-for-profit public or not-for-profit private postsecondary institution. The risks associated with this study were minimal. Precautionary steps were taken to protect the identities of the participants. This study will contribute to the conversations of how undergraduate degree completions by veterans in the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill era are accomplished. Additionally, the concepts revealed by this research led to the development of a framework that may be useful as a path to completion for military veterans and military servicemembers transitioning into academia with the hope of completing a bachelor’s-level degree using veteran education benefits to cover the costs.
