The goal of this research is to design the novel multiband antennas in MIMO implementations for wireless router applications that can be used for usable communication bands. The two novel multiband annular ring antennas: segmented dual aperture-coupled multiband annular ring antenna that has four operating frequencies at 1.85GHz, 3.5GHz, 4.55GHz and 5.6 GHz and multiband arrow slot aperture-coupled halo annular ring antenna that has six resonance frequencies at 1.55GHz, 2.3GHz, 2.85GHz, 4.05GHz, 4.6GHz and 5.65GHz are designed. Novel segmented dual aperture-coupled multiband annular ring antenna covers, three practical wireless communication bands: 1.8 GHz is for lower WLAN band, 3.5 GHz for lower WiMAX frequency and 5.6GHz for WiFi communication band. The widest bandwidth achieved is at 1.8GHz resonant with 210 MHz fractional bandwidth. The novel multiband arrow slot aperture-coupled halo annular ring microstrip patch antenna has six operating frequency bands and all the bands achieved can be used in current communication bands. The former three bands fall into LTE Band 21, Band 30 and Band 7. The later three bands fall into satellite communication C band and upper WLAN 5.7GHz band. Then these two novel multiband antenna designs are placed individually on 6 inch by 6 inch wireless router ground plane to investigate its MIMO implementation. The multiple cases were studied: 1x2 and 2x2 MIMO configurations. Finally, one of the two novel multiband annular ring antennas was selected for fabrication to verify the simulation results and MIMO performance results. And it is found that the simulation and measurement results for MIMO implementation performance results are agreeable.
