Description
The body of work, I’ve come to get mine, was presented as a thesis exhibition in the University Gallery at San Diego State University from May 3rd, through May 16th, 2015. This project was a culminating event of my graduate studies in sculpture. I’ve come to get mine is an investigation of material, color relationships, performance activities, formal qualities, identity exploration, sensory applications, as well as space and form dynamics. The sculptures and installations were born out of the development of new processes and materials while appropriating and reengineering found functional objects. Each piece is a study of selfidentity amid social expectations and obligations, hence the involvement of performance and installation in all the displayed pieces. The installation of this show follows a traditional presentation of sculptures. In the gallery there are four adjoining rooms and I was fortunate to utilize two of the rooms. Each piece was carefully chosen for a particular room, due to their size, color and intrinsic qualities. This exhibition display allowed for viewers to easily move about and participate with the sculptures. Images of this thesis project are on file at the School of Art, Design and Art History at San Diego State University.
