Ballast Pointe Farms, Inc. (Ballast Pointe) is an early-stage biotechnology company focused on the development of transgenic plants and flowers for the $60 billion consumer floriculture market. The Company's proprietary technology enables the production of genetically modified plants that produce "glow in the dark" flowers. The Company anticipates that the technology is broadly applicable to flowering plants and would provide Ballast Pointe with access to more than 75% of the floriculture market. Ballast Pointe has reduced the technology to practice with the creation of visibly luminescent petunia, carnation, and chrysanthemum varieties. Ballast Pointe believes that commercially viable flowers will need to be five- to ten-fold more luminescent than the current proof of principle flowers. The technical path necessary to develop second-generation luminescent flowers is understood, feasible, and the projected development time frame is 18 to 24 months. Anticipated funding necessary for the first two years of operation is projected to be $2.5 million. This paper will define Ballast Pointe's commercial opportunity, business model, funding strategy, financial goals, and recommend a path forward.
