During the past several decades, significant adaptations have been made in the schools to the normal tendencies of students to perform such activities as: 1. Organizing into social groups. 2. Engaging in competitive sports. 3. Developing group loyalties. 4. Giving vent to oral and written expression. 5. Following special interests. 6. Endeavoring to excel their fellows in a variety of ways. These normal tendencies have been organized in schools into what have been called extracurricular activities.
