The worthy use of leisure time has always been a problem, but the conditions existing in our modern America have brought the problem more to the front than ever before. People are poorly equipped for self entertainment. They must have someone to talk to, or to play with, something to look at or listen to--entertainment furnished without exertion, even mental, on their part. People know very little about how to really enjoy themselves. Work is something that does not make great demands on the imagination of the rank and file of workers, but wise and pleasing use of leisure time requires a certain initiative, and a good deal of real individualism.
