This study will examine the teacher accountability and evaluation policies and practices at three high performing charter schools located in San Diego County, California. Charter schools are exempted from many laws, rules, and regulations that apply to traditional school systems. By examining the teacher accountability systems at high performing charter schools, teacher accountability policies can be studied in a controlled environment wherein many traditional procedures are not applicable. In this regard, the teacher accountability policies and practices in place at high performing charter schools can serve to inform the current national dialogue and debate surrounding the question of teacher accountability and support policies.
