San Diego is a beautiful city which is well known for its mild year-round climate and it attracts many tourists because of the city weather, beaches and numerous venues like the zoo. The major hazard for San Diego has been the periodic fires over the past century which have destroyed many natural resources, property and lives. Hence the main motivation of the thesis is to educate and increase awareness among the people and especially the new generation about major wildfires which have occurred in San Diego. In San Diego County, wildfires are both naturally and human caused, and are a major hazard to our communities. An interactive GIS tool has been developed in java using Map Objects, distributed by ESRI, and a website with detailed information about the history of wildfires in San Diego County. This geography based interactive tool will help us to learn about the wildfires and their cause, acres burned, material damage, fatal loss, injury, date and time of fires started in San Diego over the period from 2001 to 2015. The user can click on the various points in the San Diego county map which will open a picture and a link to Webpages for that point located on the map, showing detailed information about the wildfires. This tool mainly focuses on educating about the wildfires, which have become a major threat nearly every year in San Diego, especially during the summer and fall.
