Next to the temple is the Shabazz Sandwich Shop, its name relating to the "Tribe of Shabazz," an ancient black nation according to the Nation of Islam. Elijah Muhammad, as leader of the Nation of Islam, established Muhammad's Temples using successive numbers. This temple was established between 1955 and 1959. This photograph is from the "Healings" album in the Peoples Temple Collection. Written on the inside front cover are the names Royal Mershon and Lula Mae Mershon. The number 130-1 is handwritten on the back.
