In the foreground is the oldest yacht club in Southern California, founded in 1893 by the Banning brothers who then owned the island. In the background is the Catalina Casino Building, otherwise known as the "Avalon Ballroom," from which band music emanated via radio from 1934 into the 1950s. It was built in 1929 by then island owner William Wrigley, Jr., to replace the one he had built in 1920. On the far right, jutting out into the ocean beyond the Casino Building, is the site of Sugar Loaf Rock, destroyed during the construction process of the building. GW-385 on the back is the photographer's number, along with his copyright symbol and date.
