This black-and-white picture postcard shows only the upper half of the body of the Infanta Margarita, as painted by Diego Velazquez (1599-1660) in 1656. Likely produced as a promotion piece for the Fine Arts Gallery of San Diego, California, which became the San Diego Museum of Art in 1978. This is a Real Photo postcard (RPPC) made with EKC photo paper (as evidenced in the stampbox on the back of this card). The Real Photo process allowed photographers to take a "snapshot" and have it finished at a photo shop that printed it out on postcard backing for mailing. This EKC photo paper was made from 1930-1950.
