Prominent in the middle of this hand-tinted picture postcard is the Hotel Churchill, at 827 C Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues. The hotel opened in 1915, built by Orrin Churchill, with the timing meant to coincide with the opening of the Panama-California Exposition of 1915 in Balboa Park. Balboa Park can be seen in the background of this photograph of the eastern portion of San Diego's downtown area.
