In this hand-tinted picture postcard, the Spreckels Theatre (1913) is on the right in the foreground (with streetcar in front of it on Second Avenue). Behind it is the San Diego Union Building (1908), also financed by John D. Spreckels (1853-1926) and designed by Harrison Albright (1866-1932). Across the street in the middle ground is The U.S. Grant hotel, also designed by Albright. In the foreground on the left is the Central Mortgage Building. The streetcars shown here appear to be Class 1 streetcars, with the characteristic block numbers on the top right of the cars and the plaque on the left, with 3 forward-facing windows, a completely enclosed car and a rounded roof. The Curt Teich number on the back is A-51191.
