This hand-tinted picture postcard shows the Spreckels Building in the right foreground, the San Diego Union Building next to it in the middle foreground, and the last visible building on the left is part of the 1910 U.S. Grant Hotel. John D. Spreckels (1853-1926) built the Spreckels Theatre (1913), the Union Building (1908), and these, the US Grant, and the San Diego Hotel (not visible but on the same south side of Broadway as the Spreckels Building) were all designed by Harrison Albright (1866-1932). The California Car type of streetcar in the foreground was phased out starting in 1912. The Curt Teich number on the back of this card is A-48683, decoded to the year 1914.
