This is a picture postcard depicting what looks like a black-and-white photograph of the First Baptist Church (known as the "White Temple") at 930 Tenth Street in San Diego, California. This is the third venue for this congregation (the 2nd on the same site), the fourth on Governor Drive in 2020. It is known that the First Baptist Church, built at this address in 1888, succeeded the "Old Baptist Church" on Seventh Avenue, and by 1969 the White Temple was vacated for the third venue. This structure exists in 2020 and is occupied by the 10th Avenue Theatre and Arts Centre. On the reverse of this card, the pastor's name is given as Pieter Smit, D.D., and there is a paragraph about membership numbers, the church's organization date of 1869, various features, times of worship, and location. The presence of the Home Tower, later the Chase Bank Building, built in 1963, on the far left (actually at 707 Broadway at 7th) indicates that this photograph must have been taken between 1963 and the 1969 date on which the church vacated the building. The approximate date is the 1960s.
