This painting by Hipolito Hidalgo de Caviedes (1902-1994) is reproduced here on a color picture postcard published before de Caviedes died. "Elvira and Tiberio" is described in the message section on the reverse as having won the "First Prize" at the 1935 International Exhibition of Paintings, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, Pa." The painting dates from 1935, was purchased in that year by the Fine Arts Society of San Diego, and was sold in 1987 by Sotheby's.
