This picture postcard shows a black-and-white version of "The Holy Family with Saint Francis" a painting by Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), the Flemish artist who created the original in oil on canvas as saturated hues. The reverse of the postcard explains that the painting was a "Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. Timken to Fine Arts Society of San Diego." This is a Real Photo postcard (RPPC) made with EKC photo paper (as evidenced in the stampbox on the back of this card). The Real Photo process allowed photographers to take a "snapshot" and have it finished at a photo shop that printed it out on postcard backing for mailing. This EKC photo paper was made from 1930-1950.
