This color picture postcard depicts a "circular ear ornament inlaid with a mosaic of turquoise, mother-of-pearl, lapis lazuli, red Spondylus shell, and green stone, surrounded by a shell ring and a border of gold beads." According to this statement, this artifact was part of an exhibit of "Peru's Golden Treasures" at the San Diego Museum of Art from August 25-November 30, 1980. The Chimu culture flourished on the northern coast of Peru, competing with the Inca, until the Inca triumphed 50 years before the Spanish conquistadors arrived.
