Two great egrets are represented in what this black-and-white picture postcard states is the Natural History Museum of San Diego, California. One taxidermically preserved bird perches on a wooden structure, with its wings outstretched, and the other is standing on the floor of the exhibit. The San Diego Natural History Museum opened in the structure built for it in Balboa Park in 1933, having been previously housed since 1922 in the 1915 Panama-California Exposition's Commerce and Industries Building later rebuilt as the Casa de Balboa. This is a Real Photo postcard (RPPC) made with Kodak photo paper (as evidenced in the stampbox on the back of this card). The Real Photo process allowed photographers to take a "snapshot" and have it finished at a photo shop that printed it out on postcard backing for mailing.
