Description
This shows the west entrance to the Panama-California International Exposition of 1915-1916 from Cabrillo Bridge. The bridge, also known as Puente de Cabrillo, was built for the Panama-California International Exposition of 1915 carrying traffic on El Prado from Laurel Street into Balboa Park. Its designers were Frank Phillips Allen, Jr. (1881-1943), and Thomas B. Hunter, with construction and opening in 1914. The California State Building visible on the left was designed by Bertram Goodhue (1869-1924). It includes the California Tower and the California Building later known as the San Diego Museum of Us. The entrance arch on the right constitutes part of the California Quadrangle (on the National Register of Historical Places) that includes the California Tower and California Building. The Panama-California Exposition of 1915 was held in San Diego's Balboa Park to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal.
